Is there anything more pleasant than two pounds of gold or a quiver of arrows dropping out of an innocent hare smashed with a hammer or pinned to a wall with a bolt? It might seem odd — after all, why would an animal carry money or loot? But no, this is what you get here and now… against common sense.
Land of Amun, a game emphasizing realism, is free from this nonsense. However, enjoying drops from mobs is still possible, and the deeper you go, the more fun it becomes.
On the surface, everything seems normal. Skins, furs, and meats are always in demand, provided you are eager to bother with butchering and delivering carcasses for a pittance. Luckily, there are easier options. Fangs, eyes, and claws are readily accepted at the Shaman Guild, where they are used to craft amulets, charms, and other items for decent money. Meanwhile, the Werewolf Guild will gladly buy entire corpses; the more intact, the more profitable. An exotic animal can fetch you a fortune, especially if you’re capable of capturing it alive.
For real thrills and valuable treasures, you’ll need to venture down to Level Three of the dungeons — no less. Most of the mobs residing there are aliens, but you’ll be especially lucky to encounter “new arrivals” that have recently passed through the Collision.
This living chaos opens thousands of teleports across the universe each day, pulling in random creatures and occasionally releasing them into the Land of Amun dungeons. It’s unclear what exactly transpires within the Collision at the planet’s core, but the fact remains that aliens are teleported out in perfect condition — ready to storm and rage.
What matters most for fortune hunters, however, is the size of these creatures, along with the duration of their confinement. Both factors significantly increase the density of chaos particles within the aliens, as it is chaos that naturally and randomly transforms their bodies, when souls, serving as guarantors of their corporal integrity, depart this mortal realm.
Over time, it has become evident that this transformation process is often predictable and occasionally controllable. The key lies in intention — particularly the final wishes or visions of the victim, or less frequently, those of the killer.
At the moment of death, aggressive animals often regret they lacked the strength of their fangs or teeth to dominate their foes. As a result, you have every chance to acquire their same teeth or fangs of an even higher quality or a larger size. If defeated creatures feel they didn’t have sufficient armor, the drop may contain materials resembling a shield or even an entire shell to craft protective gear — based on the count of body and chaos particles present in the respective corpses. Mages and spirits typically leave behind a mantle, a symbol of both defense and offense, that naturally forms a coating with various bonuses. Most importantly, it contains mana — the amount the opponent was missing to wipe you out completely — adding extra resilience.
There are exotic methods of utilizing the corpses of creatures that died too quickly or were too dumb to formulate their death wish — by feeding them to other aliens that hold your interest. As these aliens consume the bodies, they absorb the chaos particles contained within, becoming carriers of these chaotic energies themselves. Therefore, it is no surprise that sometimes unique items emerge from scavengers — having fed well and extensively, they carry valuable remnants of their feast.
Another intriguing fact is that items of the same class can be merged, but only through your intention. If you have a humble semblance of a mantle, don’t rush to discard it. Instead, acquire additional sets of robes — one after another — and gradually upgrade or repair your belonging until it reaches a state of uniqueness. However, this process is only available for items that dropped from the mobs you personally slaughtered.
Alchemists are the ones able to extract the most from alien corpses. They go at lengths performing all possible processes on dead bodies to obtain the very transformation substrate — Collision particles. Their techniques remain a closely guarded secret, accessible only to high-level guild members. If dwarves were not the core members of the guild, there would be significant profits in supplying high-value corpses. However, the existence of controllable transformation, hence chances to upgrade weapons from, say, steel all the way up to adamantine, has attracted more and more adventurers to this trade — delivering stiffs to Alchemists. Sometimes, fierce battles erupt over promising corpses, claiming as many lives as the most valuable artifacts.
And where would we be without the Villain and Thief guilds, which are becoming more and more prevalent in the dungeons? In general, it’s not so difficult to dive into one, survive its dangers, and loot valuables. The real challenge is making your way out with your trophies safely back to the surface.
Happy hunting, treasure seekers…
